Theory of polymer relaxation times in semidilute solutions. I : mode relaxation
The rate at which the intemal mode of motion of the strained polymer chains in semidilute solutions relaxes is calculated as a function of concentration. The excluded-volume and hydrodynamic interactions are taken into account. Gradual approach to the behavior of ideal chains due to the screening effect is demonstrated explicitly.
متن کاملInterface motion in semidilute polymer solutions
Linear viscoelastic effects are examined in semidilute polymer solutions in macroscopic two-phase coexistence. If the temperature T or the pressure p is oscillated in time, the interface motion exhibits gel-like behavior at high frequencies and fluid-like behavior at low frequencies. We also study transient relaxation after a step-wise change of T or p. We
متن کاملUniversal Ratios of Characteristic Lengths in Semidilute Polymer Solutions
We use experimental and simulation data from the literature to infer five characteristic lengths, denoted ξs, ξf , ξΠ, ξφ, and ξD of a semidilute polymer solution. The first two of these are defined in terms of scattering from the solution, the third is defined in terms of osmotic pressure, the fourth by the spatial monomer concentration profile, and the last by co-operative diffusion. In a giv...
متن کاملCapillary electrophoresis of RNA in dilute and semidilute polymer solutions.
We report separations of RNA molecules (281-6583 nucleotides) by capillary electrophoresis in dilute and semidilute solutions of aqueous hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) ether in varying buffers. RNA mobility and peak band widths are examined under both nondenaturing and also denaturing conditions. From studies of sieving polymer concentration and chain length, it is found that good separations can ...
متن کاملDirect observation of single molecule mobility in semidilute polymer solutions.
We determine the mobility of dye-labeled polystyrene molecules in solution by fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) over a wide range of concentrations and molecular weights (ranging from 3.9 x 10{3} to 1550 x 10{3} g/mol ). In order to obtain absolute values of the diffusion coefficient, which can be compared to diffusion coefficients determined by other methods, the size of the focal vo...
